SLAMM 2026 for Refugee and Immigrant Youth Ages 6-15
SLAMM COLLEGE INTERN GOALS: To experience new opportunities for leadership, management and community while leading volunteers and participants in learning, creativity and leadership.
SLAMM VISION: Refugee youth who are academically supported and inspired to be successful in school and confidently pursuing future individual goals
SLAMM MISSION: Provide summer literacy and enrichment experiences for refugee and immigrant youth that lead to increased literacy and school success
New Arrivals Institute (NAI) is offering a limited number of stipends for college interns to plan, lead and manage a summer literacy-based program under the direction of NAI staff. Interns will also mentor high school volunteers while modeling positive leadership and service. SLAMM offers refugee and immigrant youth from Afghanistan, Sudan, and South America, opportunities to improve their literacy in a fun, inclusive environment. SLAMM takes place Monday through Friday and intern hours are 8:30am to 1:30pm. Interns will benefit from extraordinary leadership and service opportunity. The program includes literacy activities, science, technology, soccer, art, crafts, financial literacy, dance, drama, music, Legos, and more.
