We are partnering with Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools (WS/FCS) and Forsyth Promise to support classroom instruction by operating as a Remote Learning Center during the school day, initially on TUESDAY AFTERNOONS.
Tutors will be responsible for supervision of students of various age levels and grades. They will make sure students are engaged in their online learning (including participating in any online class sessions and individual learning activities) as well as offline individual learning activities. Tutors will be available to help students problem solve difficulties with technology (such as signing in to a virtual classroom) or with homework. Tutors will supervise "down time" including lunch and time on the playground. Tutors will also be responsible for making sure that students are practicing appropriate social distancing, wearing masks, and washing hands/using hand sanitizer frequently. Tutors will be expected to follow all CDC and NC health and safety guidelines for working with school children as well as follow United Methodist Safe Sanctuary guidelines (training provided).
Shifts are approximately 4.5 hours long one day a week, initially, only on Tuesday afternoons. But there is potential for other days if we get enough volunteers. It is important that students have consistency in seeing the same tutor each week as much as possible. Doing so helps reinforce a sense of stability and reduces anxiety.
