Who We Are

NAMI Guilford is a family-based, grassroots, support and advocacy organization, which strives to act as the community hub for information relating to local resources and services for the friends and families of individuals living alongside a mental health condition, as well as, the individuals themselves. As the local affiliate chapter for Guilford County and surrounding areas NAMI Guilford works in conjunction with NAMI NC and NAMI to provide as much support and information as possible to the community members, which it serves, while following state and national policy and advocacy objectives.

Mission: To optimize the quality of life for those living in Guilford County by providing support and services for mental wellness.

Our Goals:

  • Advocate at the county, state and national levels for non-discriminatory access to quality healthcare, housing, education and employment for people with mental illness.
  • Educate the public about mental illness.
  • Work to eliminate the stigma of mental illness.
  • Advocate for increased funding for research into the causes and treatment of mental illness.

Our Vision: In our envisioned future mental illness will no longer thwart a person’s fulfillment of his or her potential. With early pinpoint diagnoses, interventions and targeted medications and services there is no pervasive disability. Ultimately, we envision a day when prevention or a cure is found.

What We Do

We advocate for better lives for those individuals who have a mental health concern and those that love them. We offer support groups that are peer-led and offer participants an opportunity to share their experiences and gain support from other attendees in a safe and encouraging space. We have a group for families and one for those struggling with mental health. We offer a variety of educational programs for families and peers on mental health, and we provide assorted presentations and informational tables in the community to help break stigma around mental health.
