The Great *Omission
Teach-In # 1 Holistic Compassion Ministry: The Great *Omission
Far too many strands of the church have omitted key aspects of its call to bear witness to the Good News of Jesus’s reign. In this first teach-in we will wrestle with what it means to embrace a “whole gospel” that attends to the spiritual & material needs of oppressed & marginalized communities. Grounded in Jesus’s “mission statement” found in Luke 4 & the parable of the Good Samaritan we will dialogue about the biblical theme of concern for the poor & vulnerable, the call to eliminate human suffering, how paternalism perverts our demonstrations of compassion, & develop sensitivity to the conditions of marginalized communities through a poverty simulation exercise. Participants will be walked through an assessment of their current posture in the community & be given practical tools to discern the differences between charity-based relief ministries & solidarity-rooted empowerment work.
This session is identical to two other sessions titled: Holistic Compassion Ministry: The Great Omission on Tuesday, June 18, Saturday, June 29
Love Out Loud wants community members to be involved in service that they are passionate about - but to also be fully aware of the contextual framework that we step into.
These training labs are deeply encouraged, open, and free to all.
Holistic Compassion Ministry Training labs are part of our Pathways Growth sessions, designed as part of our Pathways process to assist community members in taking a step back from serving and walk through a process of personal assessment, contextual growth, and engagement before serving in order to plug them into service opportunities that fulfill the center of who they were created to be. By partnering with Community Organizations we are able to help provide these Growth Sessions to you.
Pathways literally helps people find their passion - find their purpose - find their place.
