Who We Are
We are an outreach ministry of the Yadkin Valley District of the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church (UMC). But really we are a group of devoted volunteers who want to share God's love with our neighbors. Our Executive Director/Program Coordinator is a missionary sent from the global UMC to assist us in our work. We also have two part time staff to help with our children and youth programs.
What We Do
Open Arms Community seeks to mitigate the effects of poverty, low educational achievement, addiction, and socio-economic and racial prejudice by offering programs specifically designed to address these issues. Since 2000, we have been doing this with the help of volunteer staff, most of whom are Christian servants seeking to live out their faith and offer hope, peace, joy and love to their neighbors.
Our programs include tutoring, a Kids Club, a youth group, a Spanish language Bible Study for adults, special events such as a backpack giveaway at the start of the school year and more. A Spanish language Alcoholics Anonymous group also meets here several times a week.
