Volunteer: Family Weekend: Program PalProgram Pals provide programming which gives our campers the opportunity to try new things and push beyond their comfort zone. Volunteers in this role are assigned to oversee a program area such as Arts & Crafts, Woodshop, Boating and Fishing. As a Program Pal you will join a family when your program area is closed so you can continue to experience all of the magic of camp. You could also work with members of our yearly staff in a couple different areas as well. We offer the opportunity to volunteer in the barn to help out with our adaptive horseback riding and animal adventure programs. Our full-time barn team will give you the training you need to help fulfill your duties such as: leading horses in our arena, sidewalking, handling all our animals (horses, goats, llama, donkeys, cow), and many hands on tasks around the barn. The other option is working with our kitchen team and assisting with meal time set up and clean up. Our program team would walk through with you how mealtime works, but then then the kitchen team would go more into detail of your role and expectations. Both positions will get orientation time before families arrive and will also get assigned a family to work with whenever you are not at your program area. We do have an age requirement of 18, and also being a high school graduate as well. We ask you to use this link below that will take you to our staff dashboard. Here you will fill out our application to come volunteer with us. Once it is complete, a member of our team will reach out to you to set up an interview (Set aside 30-45 minutes). Volunteer: Sponsoring Committee MemberThe Forsyth Sponsoring Committee (FSC) seeks to connect with additional leaders of institutions who want to engage their people in developing leadership skills and organizing for justice. We are building an “organization of organizations” that will strengthen relationships, develop leaders, conduct listening campaigns reaching thousands of residents, and plan public actions on the issues identified (for example: educational equity, health care, housing, living wages, immigrant rights, environmental justice, etc.). We invite leaders of congregations, nonprofits, neighborhood and tenants’ associations, cultural associations, sports leagues, and other institutions in the civic sector to learn more and consider joining the 20+ institutions that have already committed to ‘sponsor’ the building of this new organization. Potential member institutions should be able to build a ‘core team’ of 5-15 leaders who participate regularly and engage your broader membership in the organizing process. As a first step, interested leaders should arrange a meeting with the local organizer to share your story and hopes for our community and learn more about the IAF organizing effort (please contact Megan Gregory at megan.nciaf@gmail.com or 847-287-7794). Then, if you think this effort may align with your mission, we can schedule an information session and conversation with your leadership team to discuss further. We also have ongoing opportunities to engage in leadership training, relationship-building, and organizing activities (internal strategy meetings, listening sessions to determine collective priorities, research-actions, and public actions on issues identified by the collective). The organizer can share about upcoming opportunities depending on where the larger collective is in the organizing process. Volunteer: School of Love - Common PrayerCommon Prayer follows in the line of ancient Israel, Jesus, and the early church’s practice of thrice-daily prayer. It also follows in the line of the ‘divine office,’ practiced by many intentional Christian communities throughout history. “And they devoted themselves…to prayer” (Acts 2). We invite you to engage in School of Love's rhythm of Common Prayer, which is an intentional structure of support that most Christians lack. It occurs every day of the week, Monday-Friday, in a fifteen minute window: Mondays at 7am, Tuesdays at 12:15pm, Wednesdays at 8:30pm, Thursdays at 12:15pm, and Fridays at 12:15pm. If you are interested in engaging School of Love’s practice of Common Prayer, please contact Clay Cooke.

Volunteer: Help People Sign up for Health InsuranceDue to the impact of COVID-19, many Americans are losing their jobs along with their health coverage as the economy shuts down. What many don't realize is that they may have options to enroll in coverage through the Affordable Care Act or Medicaid. That's where healthcare navigators step in. Healthcare navigators are trained and federally certified to remotely assist individuals and families with exploring their coverage options, completing the online application for coverage, applying for financial help to pay for premiums, and choosing a health plan that fits their specific needs. All of the training to become a healthcare navigator is online and can be completed at your own pace. For everyone's safety, we are conducting all enrollment appointments remotely until further notice. If you find yourself with time on your hands and want to engage in a meaningful remote volunteer experience that will help save lives, consider volunteering as a healthcare navigator. Please note that a background check is required, but at no cost to the volunteer.

Volunteer: Next Step Ministries Volunteer OpportunitiesSince opening its doors in 2005, the Next Step Ministries Thrift Store has been a wonderful addition to our ministry. The store provides a significant amount of financial support for our operations. It continues to grow and thrive, contributing just over 50% of our total annual income. In addition, guests and nonresidential clients are given the opportunity to shop at the store at no charge. Often times, guests come to us without much more than they clothes on their backs. Donating to us ensures that we will have inventory to meet the needs of our guests of all ages and sizes.
We are looking for volunteers to accept, sort, and assist with check out at our thrift store. We are also in need of volunteers at our Safe House. Please note that all Safe House volunteers must submit to a background check and 20 hour training prior to volunteering. Volunteer: Opportunities to serve a mealAt Rise Academy, we are a growing non-for-profit school that has been established since 2018. We currently facilitate 30+ students from k-3rd grade. At Rise Academy, we strive to serve the community by reaching the children first and their families. We are located in the Southside of Winston-Salem to intentionally reach underserved and underprivileged kids. We work with our students' parents in regards to tuition based on a tipping scale, so for us, this means we rely on volunteers and donors in many areas but in particular to provide meals, which is a big, important need in our school. Would you please consider partnering with us monthly or as many times a month to fulfill the need to feed our students at Rise? Thank you for your consideration! We look forward to partnering with you. Agency: Rise Academy At Rise Academy, we are a growing non-for-profit school that has been established since 2018.
