As a part of the “Capture the Event” Photography team, you’ll be helping us “freeze” memories during the event. We need those who are skilled in photography, videography or social media to assist us throughout the night. We will be working as a team to photograph the event and celebrate the God moments and joy that is shared by those within our city. We'd love to also have photographers set up at different photo-ops around the building!

Love Out Loud is throwing it's first-ever dance party at CFTC. We'll be teaching and playing music for 5 different dance styles. The dance floor is open to everyone, but we need volunteers who are willing to jump on the dance floor to inspire others to feel confident and dance to have fun.

Since 2008, local churches, organizations and members of the arts community have come together to throw a free citywide Christmas party pulling out all the stops: live music performances and interactive arts, original work by local artists, make-your-own toy workshop, Santa Claus and the Three Wise Men, warm drinks and desserts, and lots of other interactive activities for all ages! In years past, 1,200+ volunteers have welcomed over 10,000 guests for an evening of celebration and community at the Benton Convention Center in downtown Winston-Salem.

We engage the wide network of churches/faith groups, nonprofits, businesses, and individuals to shape (and re-shape!) the experience this year!  Our Volunteer Central is a room that volunteers can go for drinks and snacks. We need individuals to contribute:

You can drop items off at SPARK's (handling Volunteer Check-in) office at Sherwood Forest UMC at 5250 Silas Creek Pkwy  Winston Salem, NC 27106 at the circle drive in the largest wooden bin by Monday, December 14.

This year, the North Pole Village is all about experiencing the simple but powerful joy of Christmas! Meet Santa and his elves. Loving volunteers are needed to help with supplies, to warmly welcome our guests, to assist the kids with their activities, and to be open to meaningful conversations with families as they experience the heart of Christmas – the love of Christ.

Join us as an emcee for one of our many stages around the building.  You will help to introduce artists who are coming to the stage to share their gifts, interact with attendees who may stop by to enjoy your stage, and help artists get set up during transitions.

We're looking for someone with the skills to capture the "magic" occurring throughout Christmas for the City.  This would include capturing musical arts performances, interactions between volunteers and attendees, the Main Stage and other portions of the event.  Footage captured by this person would be made available to the CFTC leadership team for sharing through web and media.

Videographers will use their own equipment.

We Need You!

We've received an abundance of donations of desserts for Christmas for the City - but they need to be picked up!

(Note - routes have between 3 - 5 pickup locations, they may not take 1.5 hours, that's just what we said for the sake of time)

Volunteers in this role will provide direction to the creative faith elements of the event. There will be a pageant for families (and anyone) to be a part of that will feel very casual, but fun! There will be a space to express feelings and hope in a visual way. There will be a love feast for folks to be a part of. There will even be Stations of the Christmas Story (think Stations of the Cross approaching Easter). Volunteers in this area will be assigned to a "space", but will also be knowledgeable about what exists in the larger space and can provide a brief overview of each creative faith element.

We always need volunteers who are willing to be a part of serving desserts to thousands of people. Dessert table volunteers will serve brownies, cookies, slices of cakes, etc to an intergenerational crowd during the biggest holiday party in Winston-Salem. Our city has a diverse population. We want everyone to be able to experience Christmas for the City. If you have interpretive skills (sign language or bilingual), we would love to have you sign up to assist us in loving people. This role will be "on call" availability during the event. We may ask some of you to participate in our hospitality team at the entrances to greet our guests! Feel free to sign up for any other area in the building and designate that you would be willing to translate.

Smiles wanted! Volunteers in this area will create a welcoming atmosphere. Help guide people through the event and answer questions that may come your way. Volunteers will be located at central spots where community members enter the convention center.

A Heart of Hospitality Wanted! Volunteers in this area will create a welcoming atmosphere to approved Christmas For The City volunteers to offer them refreshment from their serving post. Specifically, the Hospitality Room encourages and cares for volunteers as they are serving throughout the day of the entire CFTC event.

The more the merrier!  Volunteers in this role will provide “Merry” Movement of guest groups (10-20 people) throughout the rooms where holidays around the world are highlighted.  Our knowledgeable Tour Guides will lead groups in the space and provide a brief overview of each creative and bustling holiday.

Training as a tour guide will be provided in a video format one - week prior to CFTC event.

Event Planner Volunteer/Intern

We are looking for energetic and fun-loving individuals to fill in internship/volunteer and part-time requirements for Operation Xcel. The Events Intern will assist in the planning, production, and execution of high-quality internal and external events in collaboration with donors, board members, partners, youth and staff.

The Curb Market has a great relationship with customers who benefit from SNAP. We distribute tokens to customers to use a various vendors in the market, getting healthy food to these customers. We need volunteers to help with counting and documenting through this process (as accurate record keeping is vital) each Saturday morning the market it open.

One of our favorite meetings at Love Out Loud is our monthly citywide leader meetings - we welcome leaders from local nonprofits,  churches, businesses, or community members to join us for a time of connecting about recent initiatives and ways to connect with whomever is present - as well as hearing what's going on with Love Out Loud!

Heart Math Tutoring (“HMT or Heart”) is partnered with 3 schools in Winston-Salem to support over 170 students in developing foundational math skills and confidence. HMT provides tutor training, easy-to-follow lesson plans, and program support to volunteers. Tutoring will take place in-person at Bolton, Easton, and Petree Elementary schools. Volunteers commit to tutoring for 30 minutes or one hour per week. Dining Room & Food Service

Joy Prom Piedmont-Triad is an annual prom created especially for individuals in our community with different abilities and disabilities. Established in 2015, Joy Prom welcomes guests ages 16 and older with physical, developmental, and intellectual disabilities for an evening of celebration, friendship, and fun.

Our Dining Room & Food Prep volunteers help create a welcoming dining experience by ensuring food and beverages are prepared, stocked, and readily available throughout the evening. Volunteers may assist with serving food at guest stations, refilling drinks, monitoring beverage and water stations, clearing and resetting tables, replenishing supplies, and helping keep the dining area clean and organized so guests can enjoy their meal without interruption.

PLEASE PLAN TO STAY UNTIL 10:00 PM.   Volunteers are asked to remain in their assigned area until they are released by the Food Service Director to assist with cleanup and packing supplies at the conclusion of the event. 

Attire: Black pants or skirt with a black shirt.

Host/Hostess (Guest Companion)

Joy Prom Piedmont-Triad is an annual prom created especially for individuals in our community with different abilities and disabilities. Established in 2015, Joy Prom welcomes guests ages 16 and older with physical, developmental, and intellectual disabilities for an evening of celebration, friendship, and fun.

Serving as a Host or Hostess is our most important—and most rewarding—volunteer role. Each volunteer is paired one-on-one with a guest and serves as their companion throughout the evening. Hosts and Hostesses escort their guest to activities, encourage participation, help them navigate the event, and most importantly, build genuine connections while ensuring their guest feels welcomed, included, and celebrated.

This role requires a full-evening commitment. Hosts and Hostesses must remain with their assigned guest at all times and may never leave a guest unattended or transfer responsibility to another volunteer without approval from the Joy Prom leadership team. Volunteers are required to remain at Joy Prom until 10:00 PM or until their guest has been reunited with and picked up by their parent or caregiver, whichever is later. Because guest safety is our highest priority, volunteers who leave before their guest has been properly checked out and reunited with their caregiver will not be eligible to volunteer with Joy Prom in the future.

Background Check Requirement (Ages 18+)

After registering, you will receive an email with instructions for completing a background check through Sterling Volunteers. All Hosts and Hostesses who are 18 years of age or older must have a Sterling Volunteers background check completed within the past 12 months.

YOU WILL RECEIVE AN EMAIL ONCE YOUR BACKGROUND CHECK HAS BEEN MARKED AS CLEAR.   

AFTER RECEIVING THIS EMAIL, YOU WILL NEED TO COMPLETE YOUR VOLUNTEER REGISTRATION VIA THE LOVE OUT LOUD/BASE PLATFORM (where you are now).

REGISTRATION DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY UPDATE ONCE YOUR BACKGROUND CHECK IS CLEARED. 

YOU MUST COMPLETE THIS STEP IN ORDER TO BE FULLY REGISTERED AS A VOLUNTEER. 

The background check costs approximately $18, and we ask volunteers to cover this expense whenever possible to help ensure Joy Prom remains a safe environment for both our guests and volunteers. Joy Prom is a volunteer-led organization, and the event is made possible entirely through the generosity of donors.

If the cost of the background check presents a financial hardship, please email info@joyprompiedmonttriad.org. We never want cost to prevent someone from serving, and financial assistance is available. Simply select the option to decline payment when completing your background check, and we will gladly cover the cost.

Responsibilities include greeting visitors, handing out event information and flyers, directing guests, assisting with setup and cleanup, and taking scheduled shifts at activity stations to help participants and support instructors.

Volunteers should be friendly, dependable, and enthusiastic about promoting creativity while providing excellent customer service to the community.

Dash Bash Arts & Innovation Festival Volunteers help create a fun, welcoming, and engaging experience for guests during makerspace events and arts festivals.

Responsibilities include greeting visitors, handing out event information and flyers, directing guests, assisting with setup and cleanup, and taking scheduled shifts at activity stations to help participants and support instructors.

Volunteers should be friendly, dependable, and enthusiastic about promoting creativity while providing excellent customer service to the community.

The Volunteer Janitor/Maintenance Assistant plays an important role in keeping the makerspace clean, safe, organized, and welcoming for all members and visitors.

Responsibilities include sweeping and mopping floors, emptying trash and recycling, cleaning restrooms and common areas, wiping down work surfaces, organizing shared spaces, and reporting maintenance or safety concerns.

Volunteers may also assist with minor facility upkeep, such as changing light bulbs, replacing paper products, and helping maintain tools, equipment, and outdoor areas as needed. Attention to detail, reliability, and a commitment to maintaining a safe, creative environment are essential for this role.

Hours are flexible, from 2 hours a week & up.

Help set up and prepare a wonderful prom experience for our guests!

Volunteers may help with General Set Up, Dining Room Set Up, Set Up Glitz & Glamour, Decorations, Hanging Signage, Parking Signage, Etc.

Joy Prom Winston-Salem is a full-scale, annual prom for the special needs individuals and those with disabilities in our community. Established in 2015, we welcome guests ages 16+, with any physical, developmental, or intellectual "different ability!"

Joy Prom Piedmont-Triad is an annual prom created especially for individuals in our community with different abilities and disabilities. Serving as a Host or Hostess is our most important—and most rewarding—volunteer role. Each volunteer is paired one-on-one with a guest and serves as their companion throughout the evening. Hosts and Hostesses escort their guest to activities, encourage participation, help them navigate the event, and most importantly, help create an evening filled with joy, friendship, and unforgettable memories.

Hosts and Hostesses are expected to remain with their assigned guest at all times. Guests may never be left alone or transferred to another volunteer without the approval of the Joy Prom Leadership Team.

This role requires a full-evening commitment. Hosts and Hostesses must remain at Joy Prom until 10:00 PM or until their guest has been reunited with and picked up by their parent or caregiver, whichever is later. Because guest safety is our highest priority, volunteers who leave before their guest has been properly checked out will not be eligible to volunteer with Joy Prom in the future.

This registration is for volunteers ages 15–17 only. If you are 18 years of age or older, please register using the Host/Hostess (18+) volunteer opportunity.

Volunteers are welcome to wear cocktail or formal attire but are not required to.

Joy Prom Piedmont-Triad is an annual prom created especially for individuals in our community with different abilities and disabilities. Established in 2015, Joy Prom welcomes guests ages 16 and older with physical, developmental, and intellectual disabilities for an evening of celebration, friendship, and fun.

One of the most memorable moments of the evening is when each guest walks the red carpet. As a member of the Red Carpet Cheering Crowd, your job is simple—but incredibly meaningful. You'll line the red carpet, clap, wave, and cheer as each guest is announced, making them feel like the star they truly are. Some guests request a silent cheer, in which case you'll simply wave and smile without clapping or shouting.

Arrival: 4:45 PM (to allow time for volunteer check-in)

Be in Position: No later than 5:30 PM

Volunteer Shift Ends: Once the final guest has walked the red carpet (approximately 7:00PM - 7:30PM)

Please note: The red carpet has historically opened 5–10 minutes earlier than the published start time when possible so all volunteers must be in place no later than 5:30 PM in order to receive instructions/guidance.

If you are volunteering with your family or a group, please select "Respond as Team" when registering. You may use your last name or any team name you'd like. Register yourself first, then add each additional volunteer so we can prepare a name badge for everyone attending.

Children ages 5–13 are welcome to volunteer for this opportunity only.

To ensure our guests remain the focus of the evening:

Children and any volunteers under the age of 14 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times while on-site.

Children must be able to follow directions, stay OFF of the red carpet in areas where there are no ropes, and participate appropriately throughout the event in order to participate

Because our guests are the stars of the evening, children should not require constant supervision that would distract from the event.

Children who are prone to running away, frequent outbursts, or behaviors that may disrupt the experience for our guests should NOT participate in this volunteer opportunity.

Any volunteer, adult or child, whose behavior distracts from our guests or is otherwise inappropriate may be asked to leave by any Joy Prom Leadership Team member.

After the final guest has walked the red carpet, families with children are asked to depart the stadium immediately.

Red Carpet Volunteers are not permitted to walk through the prom area after the prom has begun.   This is for crowd control/safety purposes.   If you are wanting to volunteer at Joy Prom for the entirety of the event, please sign up to volunteer for a different volunteer opportunity,

Children are not permitted on the dance floor or to walk through the event venue during the remainder of the prom.

This area is often featured in photos and has historically been livestreamed by local media, so appropriate attire is important.

What do I need to wear when volunteering?  Please wear clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty. NO OPEN TOE OR HEEL SHOES WILL BE ALLOWED! (ie: flipflops, sandals, etc).

What is the ReStore?  The Habitat ReStore sells gently-used furniture, appliances, fixtures, surplus building materials, and other items at 25-75% off their regular retail prices.  All proceeds are used to build affordable Habitat homes in our community.

What will I do when volunteering in the ReStore?  When volunteering in the ReStore, you might help with accepting, moving and preparing donations for the sales floor while also assisting the ReStore staff and customers.

As a Road To Recovery volunteer driver, you'll provide safe transportation so patients can keep their treatment schedules and focus on healing. Rides are typically Monday–Friday during the day.

Tasks may include helping to weed, water, prune, plant, and harvest. Volunteers may also assist in preparing educational programs. Tasks vary during and between shifts. Work may include assembling, lifting up to 10 pounds, standing, bending, stooping, exposure to the elements, utilizing tools. No gardening experience necessary.

This does not require lifting more than 5lbs at once. If we do not have eggs to work with, you will assist with the rest of the food sorting operations.

The Greensboro History Museum needs help running our Summer Program in 2026!  The Summer Program is a history adventure for students ages 5-14, running from mid-June to mid-August.  High school volunteers (VolunTeens) help set up and break down the Summer Program and run different history activity stations.  This year, VolunTeens will help educate children of the Triad about America250th, learning about what life was like in the 18th Century, and assist with fun hands-on activities like writing with quill pens.  

VolunTeens will need to be interviewed and attend an orientation before beginning.  VolunTeens can accrue large amounts of volunteer hours and possible service hours for the Summer.   VolunTeens can expect to pick up 2.5 hours per Summer Program.

Hosting a Littles In Waiting activity is a meaningful and fun way for volunteer groups to get involved!
Our Littles In Waiting mentoring program provides quarterly, staff-supervised activities at the BBBS Mentoring Center for children who are waiting to be matched with a Big Brother or Big Sister.

Volunteers can lead activities that are informational and skill-based (like life skills, job readiness, or sharing about your career) or simply fun and engaging (such as cooking, crafting, or sharing your favorite hobby).

This program helps build resilience, encourages goal-setting, teaches life skills, and surrounds youth who are waiting to be matched with a caring, supportive community.

Join Samaritan Ministries in serving dinner to our guests staying in our emergency men’s shelter and recovery program. Open every evening, we rely on volunteers to assist with meal service, dishwashing, supporting our guests, and sharing kindness with our neighbors in need.

ART CRUSH is held on the Third Friday of May, July, September, and November from 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM on Trade St. and 6th St. in the heart of the Arts District of Winston-Salem, NC. Every month, established members of the community curate the Visual Artists and Performers of Winston-Salem to provide you with a night of creative expression, exploration and celebration! This event is FREE to the public! Arts District of Winston Salem is a non-profit organization whose mission is that art is a universal language and a source of connection that knows no boundaries. The Arts District of Winston-Salem connects with and amplifies diverse voices and visions, bringing them together at the heart of our city. This event is a sponsored project of Arts Council of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County funded by ARPA and supported by Forsyth County Board of Commissioners!

Clothing processors will grade, sort, hang and fold clothing and accessories to be displayed in the boutique.

As we provide these clothing items, each shopper is respected as a unique individual worthy of dignity and respect. Hope restored is our ultimate goal.

The Redress program is open to everyone. Any individual desiring assistance, regardless of income status, may browse our store free of charge. One life changed, and one smile restored is the only reward we look for. Broken hearts set free by love will make a difference in any family’s future.

Warehouse associates stock shelves, prepare bags of food for distribution, and assist clients to cars with food.

Intake associates talk directly to clients and input information into data base.

Processors will sort, hang/fold baby items, and prepare layette bags for partnering agencies to distribute to families participating in parenting classes.

A part of the Dream Center since 2015, Outreach Alliance for Babies works with community agencies in Forsyth County that have identified clients with "significant financial" needs which prevent them from purchasing needed items for their child. The client may either be in the last trimester of pregnancy or have an infant, newborn to twelve months of age.

To date, over 2500 babies have received assistance from Outreach Alliance for Babies, Inc. A typical layette consists of a tote bag stocked with diapers, diaper wipes, wash cloths, baby wash, baby lotion, sleep and play sets, onesies, bibs, receiving blankets, etc.

Since that first brainstorming meeting in late summer of 2008 at The Millennium Center, Christmas for the City has gone through numerous iterations and engaged a wide range of leaders and partners responsive to the times (anybody remember the drive-through CFTC of 2020?!). Rooted from the beginning in the simple vision of Love God, Love People, CFTC has grown into something remarkable — Winston-Salem's largest annual community celebration, where 8,000-10,000 neighbors from every background gather to encounter belonging and one another.

CFTC2025 was a true labor of love — new ideas, an expanded leadership team, and a gathering filled with hope in a time when we all need it. With 52 partner organizations, 1,200+ volunteers, and tens of thousands of meaningful connections made across a single evening, it was a vivid picture of what's possible when our whole community shows up together.

Plans for CFTC2026 are already underway, and we want you at the table. Whether your gifts are in logistics, partnerships, programming, hospitality, or something else entirely, there's an action team where you belong.

Children’s Law Center (CLC) is seeking dedicated attorneys to volunteer their time and expertise to advocate for children in our community. Volunteer attorneys play a critical role in ensuring that children involved in Domestic Violence Protective Order and high-conflict custody cases have a voice in court and that their best interests remain at the center of legal proceedings.

Through CLC’s Custody Advocacy Program (CAP), volunteer attorneys serve as Guardians ad Litem, representing the best interests of children in domestic violence and high-conflict family court cases. In this role, attorneys conduct interviews, review records, collaborate with professionals involved in the child’s life, and provide informed recommendations to the court to help ensure safe, stable outcomes for children.

CLC provides training, mentorship, and staff support to ensure volunteer attorneys feel prepared and supported in this meaningful work. The time commitment varies by case, and participation offers attorneys an opportunity to make a direct and lasting impact on the lives of vulnerable children in our community.

Eligibility: Volunteer attorneys must be currently licensed and in good standing with the North Carolina State Bar. To avoid current or future conflicts in custody matters, attorneys who currently practice family law are not eligible to serve in this role.

This opportunity is ideal for attorneys who are passionate about child advocacy, interested in meaningful pro bono service, and committed to strengthening families and communities

Community Care Clinic is currently in urgent need of volunteer dentists. Many of our patients live with chronic illnesses such as diabetes and heart disease, and oral health is an important part of managing their overall health. Sadly, many of the patients we serve have gone years without seeing a dentist, and for some, it is their first dental visit in their lives. We often see patients suffering from severe pain, infections, and advanced dental problems that require immediate care. Providing dental services does more than treat teeth—it relieves pain, restores dignity, and improves overall health. The need is urgent, and your support can make a life-changing difference for the patients we serve.

Many of our clinic volunteers are coming straight from their jobs to volunteer at our clinics and are unable to get their own dinner.  

Please plan to deliver food for at least 20 to the Community Care Center by 4:30, or by 4:00 if possible.  Please wear a mask when delivering your meal.  Please take food in disposable/non-returnable containers.  It is not necessary to provide beverages or paper products.  Casseroles, pasta or soup can stretch further to feed more volunteers.  Not necessary to make sandwiches ahead 0 simply bring bread and fillings.

HELP NEEDED WITH REFUGEE and IMMIGRANT INFANTS THROUGH AGE 5!

Enjoy one day each week assisting with Infants, toddlers or 3-5 year olds, 9:30am-12:30pm, year round as you are available. Parents are on-site learning English.

Do not under-estimate the power of this volunteer opportunity to welcome refugees and immigrants to the US who are trying to make a better life for themselves and their families! Helping young children become ready for Kindergarten is the same as helping them become successful students which helps the entire family! 

Assist Instructors teaching newly English to refugee and immigrant adults!

Volunteer assistants are needed once per week, 9:30am to 12:30pm at NAI near downtown Greensboro. This is an easy and fun way to get to know and help our newest refugee and immigrant neighbors become independent.

Assist in Supporting our Community Garden!

NAI is seeking volunteers to serve 2-5 hours per week in our community garden! We are prepping everything and getting ready for planting and sowing seeds through NAI's Garden Caring Group with refugees from all over but especially Afghanistan and Sudan! The garden harvest will be shared directly with our clients.

SLAMM: SUMMER LITERACY ART MUSIC AND MOVEMENT

SLAMM 2026 for Refugee and Immigrant Youth Ages 6-15

SLAMM COLLEGE INTERN GOALS: To experience new opportunities for leadership, management and community while leading volunteers and participants in learning, creativity and leadership. 

SLAMM VISION: Refugee youth who are academically supported and inspired to be successful in school and confidently pursuing future individual goals

 SLAMM MISSION: Provide summer literacy and enrichment experiences for refugee and immigrant youth that lead to increased literacy and school success

New Arrivals Institute (NAI) is offering a limited number of stipends for college interns to plan, lead and manage a summer literacy-based program under the direction of NAI staff. Interns will also mentor high school volunteers while modeling positive leadership and service. SLAMM offers refugee and immigrant youth from Afghanistan, Sudan, and South America, opportunities to improve their literacy in a fun, inclusive environment. SLAMM takes place Monday through Friday and intern hours are 8:30am to 1:30pm. Interns will benefit from extraordinary leadership and service opportunity. The program includes literacy activities, science, technology, soccer, art, crafts, financial literacy, dance, drama, music, Legos, and more.
